ORNL Sponsors Workshop on Genomics at Duke University
Six speakers from ORNL were invited to address the Oak Ridge National
Laboratory Workshop on Genomics held at Duke University April 29May
1. This workshop, which also included participants from Duke University,
the University of Tennessee, North Carolina State University, Georgia
Institute of Technology, Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and the University
of Virginia, was designed to foster scientific collaborations in the focus
areas of Genome Applications, Genome Technology, Imaging Applications,
and Computational Approaches. Among the University of Tennessee attendees
were three speakers who represented the research interests of the Tennessee
Mouse Genome Consortium.
The format included formal presentations from the
speakers as well as mealtime and evening opportunities for informal
gatherings and discussions of common interests. There will be a
continuing committee, consisting of John Nemeth of Oak Ridge
Associated Unversities, James Siedow of Duke University, Dabney
Johnson of ORNL, and John Koontz of UT, charged with keeping
connections open for further scientific interactions among the
participating institutions.
Invited ORNL participants were Mitch Doktycz, Dabney Johnson, and Ed Uberbacher
of the Life Sciences Division, Jim Stephenson of Chemical and Analytical
Sciences Division, Jerry Tuscan of Environmental Sciences Division, and
