Human Genome Management Information System Group Participates
in Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Meeting (June 2001)
Marissa Mills represented HGMIS and the DOE Human Genome Program at
the "American Engenics and the New Biology: Perspective and Parallels"
meeting at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory at their invitation. Under way
as a result of the meeting are a new eugenics page for the Human Genome
Project Information website (www.ornl.gov/hgmis)
and arrangements for a speaking engagement at ORNL by a eugenics historian.
HGMIS publications for the month included a 4-page Human Genome Project
Fact Sheet to provide quick and up to date answers to commonly asked questions,
such as "Whose Genome Is It" , and a 2-page flyer on the new DOE Genomes
To Life program for use by DOE sponsors at the annual meeting of the American
Society for Microbiology. Online highlights included the conduction of
a survey to solicit new ways the HGPI website can serve educators. In
May, the website received an estimated 4.5 million total page hits, comprising
637,000 text file hits by 207,000 users staying on the site an average
of 12 minutes. HGMIS also set up an internal website this month for informational
support to the biology portion of the current call for the ORNL LDRD competition
(home.ornl.gov/gtl/).
