Senior Staff Member Presents Invited Talk to CIRMS

Dr. Keith Eckerman, leader of the Dosimetry Research Group in the Assessment
Technology Section of the ORNL Life Sciences Division, was invited to present
a talk on "The Contributions of Oak Ridge National Laboratory to Radiation Dosimetry
and Standards" by the Council on Ionizing Radiation Measurements and Standards
(CIRMS). This talk, which was presented on October 20, 1998, at the National
Institute of Standards and Technology, reviewed the history of radiation research
at ORNL and described specific contributions related to the development of radiation
measurement and assessment methods and radiation protection standards. For more
than twenty years, Dr. Eckerman has been actively involved in biokinetic and
dosimetric modeling aimed at internal dosimetry applications, has been instrumental
in the development of international radiation protection standards, and has
served on a number of committees of the International Commission on Radiation
