Life Sciences Division was well-represented in the recent awards sponsored
by the Society for Technical Communications. Awards were received by staff
members in both the Computational Biology Section and the Toxicology and
Risk Analysis Section.
"Distinguished Award" (first place) in (Category: Online Books): U.S.
Department of Energy Microbial Genome Program Report. This report
also received a "Best of Show" (Category: Online Communications)
and an "Award of Merit in Technical Publications" (Category:
Information Material). Recipients of the award are: Sheryl A. Martin
(TARA); Marissa D. Mills, Anne E. Adamson, Denise K. Casey, Betty Mansfield,
Judy M. Wyrick, and Laura N. Yust (Human Genome Management Information
System, CBS); Daniel W. Drell, Marvin E. Frazier, Anna C. Palmisano,
and Aristides A. N. Patrinos (DOE).
"Award of Merit": Protecting Human Subjects newsletter.
Recipients of the award are: Gloria Caton (Managing Editor) and Tim

"Award of Merit in Technical Communications": Department
of Energy's Low Dose Radiation Research Program brochure (prepared to
publicize this same DOE program to general audiences). Recipients of
the award are: John Wassom, Susan Dimmick, Margaret Lyday, and Amy Wolfe.
The publication awards were presented at a ceremony held March 31, 2001,
in Knoxville, Tennessee.
