Two-photon excitation work featured in spectroscopy
journal
The cover photograph and feature paper in the February 1997
issue of Applied Spectroscopy (volume51, number 2, pages 218-226) are
based on work done by Walt Fisher and Eric Wachter of the Advanced
Photonics Applications Laboratory in the Life Sciences Division
Assessment Technology Section. The paper presented results of research
on two-photon excitation-the basic process used for their proposed
non-invasive breast cancer therapy technique. It deals with the
fundamental parameters of the self mode-locked titanium:sapphire laser
relative to the application of this source for two-photon excitation
fluorimetry studies. Walt Fisher is the principal author of the paper,
and members of the Coherent Laser Group, who provided some equipment
for this work, are co-authors. This photonics-based breast cancer
therapy has received significant media interest over the past several
months.
