  • BXD Recombinant Inbred mice

The BXD recombinant inbred lines derive from a cross of C57BL/6J and DBA/2J. The F2 progeny of this cross have been inbred for many years. The original set (BXD1 - BXD32) was created by Dr. Benjamin A. Taylor in the late 1970's, and an additional series including BXD33 - BXD42 in the early 1990's. BXD43 - BXD100 were initiated by Peirce, Lu, Silver and Williams in the late 1990's creating the largest existing genetic reference population. Data collected in this reference population can be aggregated indefinitely and integrated with hundreds of phenotypes collected over the past few decades using Genenetwork.org. Genotypes of these mice have been characterized in a collaborative effort by the Wellcome Turst-CTC-Illumina, resulting in a dense, informative marker map.

Obtaining BXD RI lines. The entire population is available at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory for phenotyping on site. Strains BXD1 - BXD 42 are available from the Jackson Laboratory. Strains BXD43-BXD100 are available for distribution from our facility.

  • ORNL Mice via the International Mouse Strain Resource

In addition to our reference populations collection, ORNL is home to many mutant lines of mice. Information on these mice is available at the International Mouse Strain Resource.

  • Mutations Identified in the Cryopreserved Mutant Mouse Bank (CMMB)

  • ORNL Mutant Mouse Database (MMDB)

A more comprehensive listing of mice available at Oak Ridge can be searched on the MMDB Search page.
